Good Fences Make Good Neighbors is collaborative painting exhibit by Chicago based comic artist, Anders Nilsen, and local abstractionists, Sonnenzimmer. For the exhibit, Nadine Nakanishi and Nick Butcher of Sonnenzimmer have created a series of abstract landscape paintings to which Nilsen has added his own idiosyncratic and spare line work. Merging disparate mediums and styles, these collaborative works produce a graphic language all their own, one completely unique to the exhibit.
Both Sonnenzimmer and Nilsen have a strong history of self-publishing, Nilsen through his comics and zines and Sonnenzimmer through their posters and books. The accessibility and immediacy of such efforts inform these mixed media pieces, creating an inviting, engaging and playful collection of images and brief narratives.
